From academic to abstract, pencil on paper to oil on canvas, highly-rendered to expression-driven, this studio allows you to follow your own path at your own pace. It is a great opportunity for artists at all-levels to get together and create, in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Open Studio at MMoA is a fun way to retain and advance your visual art skills while working with a live model each week.
FOR DRAWING SESSIONS… Artists bring their own supplies for a chance to work from a live model. No instruction provided. The $16 fee covers the cost of the model and helps support the NAA. Artists under the age of 18 may attend our Figure Drawing program with prior permission of the Program Coordinator and a permission slip from their parent or guardian.
Open Drawing is a three-hour long event every Saturday which provides an opportunity for local artists and those interested in figure drawing to practice, enhance their skills, and socialize with other artists. This is a weekly walk-in event, no registration is required, just bring your drawing supplies! Please note this class is for Adults only.
The Norfolk Drawing Group focuses on drawing the nude figure in a relaxed setting without any instruction.
2 hour Sunday Figure Drawing Sessions on the *3rd Sunday of every month. (*CHANGES to which Sunday of the month may occur if the 3rd Sunday is unavailable) The session will include a variety of timed poses for folks to sketch away & a 10 minute interval halfway through. Drawing supplies will be provided but please feel free to bring your own (i.e sketchpad, pens, charcoal).
Open Figure Drawing is a community-based drawing group that gives people of all abilities an opportunity to draw from an unclothed model.
The Gallery hosts figure drawing year round from 10am to 1pm Saturdays and portrait drawing sessions are held on select Wednesdays: 1pm to 4pm. Chairs are provided but we ask attendees to bring their own easels if possible. Materials are not provided. Join us Wednesday evenings in January for a class in figure drawing. The art of sketching the human figure helps the artists capture the essence of the human body’s musculature, texture and postures. All sessions are in person, drawing from a nude or lightly clothed model. Table top easels are provided and attendees are welcome to bring their own standing easel. Materials are not provided. There is no instructor present. We encourage artists who attend to explore the use of different materials, drawing styles and techniques. Attendees must bring appropriate cleaning materials for their wet media.
Join us on Tuesday evenings to work from the figure model. There is no instruction, this is just an opportunity to practice and enjoy the company of other artists. There will be short poses for warm-up and then longer poses as the night goes on.
Weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Figure drawing with live model. Sign up required! Poses from 10 seconds to 30 minutes. This will allow artist to warm up hand-eye coordination and leave artists with many figures to work from. Any harassment or inappropriate comments toward the model will NOT be tolerated.
Our Sunday Night Figure Drawing sessions take place every Sunday from 5 – 7 pm excluding holiday weekends or weekends adjacent to holidays. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST AGREE TO THE FIGURE DRAWING CLASS ETIQUETTE CONTRACT. In a professional and academic environment, artists work from a nude model in a variety of artistic mediums, with poses ranging from 30 seconds to 25 min – perfect for anyone wanting to work independently with a model at your own pace. An instructor will be present to facilitate the session and help as needed. No instruction will be given. All skill levels are welcome to join in. Easels, chairs, and drawing boards are provided. Artists must bring their own drawing and/or painting materials.
Live models are presented for this open, drop-in studio session. Open to adults of all skill levels. Please bring your own supplies. Class is ongoing and artists of all levels are invited. Class monitor, Kathy Coe is an award-winning artist, who has been painting and teaching for many years.
Develop your skills while working from a live model in a series of poses. This session will be a nude session with a combination of short and medium-length poses, ending in a longer-form pose. As this is a community-facilitated group with no formal instructor present, it is the perfect opportunity to dedicate the time to develop your skills. This session isn’t just for figure drawing either – sculptors are welcome!
Beginners are welcomed to come to learn basic foundational techniques, and more advanced participants are encouraged to use this time to work with a model as best suits their needs. Whether it’s proportion, anatomy, value, or atmosphere, the instructor will provide constructive feedback to help participants get the most out of this class. Each session will focus on long poses, 10–15-minute poses, and proportions, use of paper/material, how to measure/scale the body, and perspective. Third Thursday of the month 6-8pm !
Enjoy these non-instructional open drawing sessions. Each session will include a series of short gesture drawings and several longer poses. Work on your own development, refine and develop your existing skills, or simply experience something new. Facilitators will keep time for the poses.
Ingleside at Rock Creek (a continuum of care retirement community in NW Washington DC) is looking for an experienced Life Drawing model for a series of art classes. The time frame would be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. The class is already in session so we could start immediately if someone is available. Session is fully Clothed– instructor requested something flowing and interesting to draw. Fee is negotiable. We are a small Drawing Group who meet weekly at a residence in Cheverly, Maryland. As Artists of color,we are seeking to work with more experienced models of color.
