Our Open Studio sessions provide a valuable opportunity for artists of all skill levels to work from a live model in a structured studio environment. A monitor is present to set the poses, keep time, and ensure a prompt start. Easels, stools, sculpture stands, and drawing horses are available for use. Attendees are responsible for bringing their own art supplies.

This session is an open invitation to all levels of creative mastery, exclusively for those 18 and above. Easels are on the house, and if you’re 21 or older, BYOB to add that extra splash of inspiration.

Open Sketch takes place the first Thursday of every month from 6:30-8:00 pm. This event is open to members and the public, beginner to advanced. There is no formal instruction but there are plenty of artists to interact with and ask questions. Gather your sketch supplies of choice and drop in! There is an $10 donation requested for the model. It is a great opportunity for artists at all-levels to get together and create, in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Open Studio at MMoA is a fun way to retain and advance your visual art skills while working with a live model each week.
FOR DRAWING SESSIONS… Artists bring their own supplies for a chance to work from a live model. No instruction provided. The $16 fee covers the cost of the model and helps support the NAA. Artists under the age of 18 may attend our Figure Drawing program with prior permission of the Program Coordinator and a permission slip from their parent or guardian.
Open Drawing is a three-hour long event every Saturday which provides an opportunity for local artists and those interested in figure drawing to practice, enhance their skills, and socialize with other artists. This is a weekly walk-in event, no registration is required, just bring your drawing supplies! Please note this class is for Adults only.

Open Figure Drawing is a community-based drawing group that gives people of all abilities an opportunity to draw from an unclothed model.
Join us Wednesday evenings in January for a class in figure drawing. The art of sketching the human figure helps the artists capture the essence of the human body’s musculature, texture and postures. All sessions are in person, drawing from a nude or lightly clothed model. Table top easels are provided and attendees are welcome to bring their own standing easel. Materials are not provided. There is no instructor present. We encourage artists who attend to explore the use of different materials, drawing styles and techniques. Attendees must bring appropriate cleaning materials for their wet media.
Weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. Figure drawing with live model. Sign up required! Poses from 10 seconds to 30 minutes. This will allow artist to warm up hand-eye coordination and leave artists with many figures to work from. Any harassment or inappropriate comments toward the model will NOT be tolerated.
Develop your skills while working from a live model in a series of poses. This session will be a nude session with a combination of short and medium-length poses, ending in a longer-form pose. As this is a community-facilitated group with no formal instructor present, it is the perfect opportunity to dedicate the time to develop your skills. This session isn’t just for figure drawing either – sculptors are welcome!
Beginners are welcomed to come to learn basic foundational techniques, and more advanced participants are encouraged to use this time to work with a model as best suits their needs. Whether it’s proportion, anatomy, value, or atmosphere, the instructor will provide constructive feedback to help participants get the most out of this class. Each session will focus on long poses, 10–15-minute poses, and proportions, use of paper/material, how to measure/scale the body, and perspective. Third Thursday of the month 6-8pm !
Ingleside at Rock Creek (a continuum of care retirement community in NW Washington DC) is looking for an experienced Life Drawing model for a series of art classes. The time frame would be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. The class is already in session so we could start immediately if someone is available. Session is fully Clothed– instructor requested something flowing and interesting to draw. Fee is negotiable. We are a small Drawing Group who meet weekly at a residence in Cheverly, Maryland. As Artists of color,we are seeking to work with more experienced models of color. If you are interested and available please complete the attached application for submission. Session time: 6:30pm – 9:30pm Day of the week: Some flexibility to accommodate model. Compensation: Please list your model rate on application.
